White Paper - Overview

This document describes HSL view of network separation – integration dilemmas and solutions.

  • Chapter 1 explains the need to integrate networks with mixed security levels. In particular we will try to explain the driving forces in opening secured organizations to the hostile outside world of the internet.
  • Chapter 2 describes the risks in such integration between two security levels and between classified network and the internet in particular.
  • Chapter 3 discuss the special needs of work flow users. These users job is evolved passing data between networks and therefore their needs for integration are wider.
  • Chapter 4 discuss the different location options for integration with their advantages and disadvantages.
  • Chapter 5 discusses the special challenge of network integration between different organizations. Naturally these cases evolve not only technical challenges but also political and cultural challenges.
  • Chapter 6 provides an overview of existing and new integration options. Each one is brought with its related advantages and disadvantages. In this chapter we present the new concepts of the KVM Combiner and the Modular KVM Combiner developed by HSL.
  • Chapter 7 focuses on the high-level requirements that led to the KVM Combiner design. In this chapter the 3 sets of system requirements are listed – user requirements, security requirements and operational requirements.
  • Chapter 8 describes an overview of the design features of the Modular KVM Combiner.
  • Chapter 9 provides an intrusion scenarios analysis assuming that no physical access to the system gained by intruder (no physical tampering).
